Current Business
- Call to Order by Mark Owen at 6:04pm
- Adoption of the Agenda
• Motion to adopt the proposed agenda – Anthony - Approval of Minutes
• Minutes from November 19th, 2019 – Stephanie was able to confirm the
contents of the minutes.
• There was a parents’ night early in 2020. Parents’ night was a collaborative effort
between the PSSC at Northrop Frye and the PSSC at Maplehurst. This was not a
meeting so there were no additional minutes prior to the COVID shutdown in
March 2020.
• Minutes from November 2020 PSSC meeting
Mark motions to accept the minutes as presented and Anthony seconds the
motion. - Reports:
i) Northrop Frye Home & School Association Representative – Angela Clarke
Angela was unable to attend the meeting.
Mark read the update from Home & School.
• Sold face masks
• Online event – free
• Holiday survival raffle

ii) Northrop Frye Teacher Representative – Stephanie Dupuis
Teachers feedback re: COVID
Key concerns:
• Increased duty
• Early arrival of students 7:25am
• Minimal time for lunch/washroom
• Teachers of younger students have concerns about monitoring use of
masks
Difficult to sanitize everything in the classroom
• Grades 3 to 5 teachers have similar concerns. However, their students
are dismissed an hour later so they have less prep time than their
colleagues.

• PL Days – focus on distance learning
Teachers are prepping for this situation
K-2 paper format
3-5 Blended learning – paper/online
• Capacity for Courage Grant
Declined grant – incompatible with SIP
Developed a different project re: Diversity and sense of belonging
Next steps: survey students, classes will select a country, teachers have
flexibility with timing, no specific date, presented by video to school

Need to address since transition from K-8 school to K-5 school
Online meeting – key ideas:

PSSC offers advisory role

Develop strengths and weaknesses based on data
Looked at 7 indicators – narrowed it to 2
i) SEL (social emotional learning)
Mindsets for learning
Mental health
School connectedness
Normally compared to data of other schools but can’t due to COVID
ii) Numeracy
Improving instruction
Noticed gaps as students go to middle school
Working on improving math results - Parking and Drop Off Issues
Overall, it is a safety issue – speed, people disregarding rules, changing lanes etc.
Would additional parking spaces be helpful? – perhaps the field to the right as you are
exiting.
What is the best way to proceed?
Letter to the DEC?
LEAD certified school – Mrs. Landry will investigate this
Invite Aubrey Kirkpatrick to a meeting to express concerns?
Action Plan:
PSSC will move forward with a letter to the DEC
Anthony will compile research
Mark will draft a letter and send it to PSSC members for feedback/input
Discussion re: emissions from cars running while waiting – signs might be a possibility.
